Virginia Hiawatha

Virginia Hiawatha (Hull) James was born to Jesse Hull and Ella Zadia Clark on June 14, 1916 in Maysville, Oklahoma. She passed from this life at the age of 101 on December 11, 2017 in Lawton, Oklahoma. Virginia lived her whole life in Lindsay, Oklahoma and was a member of the Erin Springs Baptist Church for over 80 years. She participated by singing in the church choir and in the 1950’s she began the church nursery care. Virginia met and married the love of her life Austin “Freck” Hershel James and together they spent many wonderful years until his passing in October of 1969. Together they had two sons; William “Bill” James and Clifford A. James. Virginia loved working with her hands. She enjoyed gardening, quilting, cooking for family during the Holiday Seasons, and spoiling both her boys. Virginia spent most of her life as a house wife and worked from home selling Avon, until her husband’s passing at which time she began working at the sewing factory in Lindsay, Oklahoma. Virginia is the great granddaughter of Smith Paul the founder of Pauls Valley, Oklahoma. She is preceded in death by her parents: Jesse Hull and Ella Clark, her husband: Austin “Freck” Hershel James, three brothers: Bobby, Gene, and Harold Bishop, and one sister: Ella Faye Bishop. Virginia is survived by her sons: William “Bill” James of Lawton, Oklahoma and Clifford A. James and wife Laura of Maysville, Oklahoma, a brother: Carl Bishop of Newcastle, Oklahoma, four grandchildren: Jeff James, Chad James, Tami Wright, and Kent James, and ten great grandchildren: Ashton Wright, Caleb Wright, Nathan Wright, Terrance Ailey, Seth James, Maddison James, Desiree Carl, Gary James, Mack Treadwell, and Lindsey Treadwell, three great great grandchildren: Aubree Wright, Gracie Ailey, and Noah Ailey, and a niece Linda (Bishop) Baxtor. Virginia was a joy to be around and touched the life of all those she came in contact with. She will be truly missed by all her family and friends. Funeral Services to honor the life of Virginia are set to begin at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, December 16, 2017 at the Erin Springs Baptist Church in Erin Springs, Oklahoma with Chaplin Mike Tompkins and Pastor Clay Hicks officiating. She will be laid to rest following the service at the Green Hill Cemetery in Lindsay, Oklahoma. Services are under the direction of Scott Wilbourn with Boydston Funeral Home in Lindsay, Oklahoma.
