Milbern Slay

Milbern Slay of Lindsay, Oklahoma departed this life on Friday, June 4th, 2010 at St. Anthony Hospital in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma at the age of 88. Milbern was born on September 13, 1921 in Hannah, Oklahoma to Enoch R. Slay and Mertie Elzira (Thompson) Slay. Milbern moved to Lindsay, Oklahoma with his family from Sulphur, Oklahoma at age two. He joined the U.S. Navy at the age of twenty. He served his country during World War II in the South Pacific aboard the USS Dent APD 9. He returned to Lindsay at the age of 49 and lived there for the remainder of his life. Milbern married Zula Mae (Hilton) Slay in Gainesville, Texas on October 15,1974. Milbern worked most of his life as a heavy duty mechanic for construction companies. He was a member of the Church of Christ. Milbern was also a member of the Tin Can Sailors Association and the AARL National Association for Amateur Radio. He enjoyed hunting, and he loved to fish. Mr. Slay is survived by his wife, Zula Mae Slay of Lindsay, Oklahoma, seven children; Milbern Glen Slay Jr. of La Selva Beach, California, Joyce Darlene Hall of Santa Cruz, California, Kathryn Sue Rainey of Capitola, California, Carol Ann Moreland of Gilroy, California, Kenneth Ray Slay of Watsonville, California, Barbara Jo Salisbury of Georgetown, Texas and Deborah Lynn Carr of Newman, California. Milburn also leaves behind fifteen grandchildren; Chris Slay, Keith Slay, Dean Slay, Michael Hall, Sandi Yates, Wendi Nelson, Kevin Hall, Jason Rainey, Nicholas Slay, Benjamin Moreland, Brittany Axle, Kimberly Axle and Brian Axle, all of California, Erin Rhea and Amanda Shannon, both of Texas along with seventeen great-grandchildren and two more that are on-the-way. Mr. Slay was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters; Liddie Rogers, Mattie Mayo, Lillie Cooper, and his brothers; John Slay, Oscar Slay, Aorl Slay, Doyl Slay, Walter Slay and Haskell "Hack" Slay . Funeral services for Mr. Slay are set for ten o?clock a.m. on Saturday, June 12th, 2010 at Erin Springs Cemetery in Erin Springs, Oklahoma with Pastor John Hornbeck officiating.
