Howard Ardrey

Howard Leon Ardrey departed this life on the evening of December 25, 2012, at his home in Lindsay, Oklahoma at the age of 87. Leon was born on February 22, 1925 in Hope, Oklahoma to Lillie Elizabeth Rebecca (Campbell) Ardrey and Lee On Ardrey. He married Bonnie Wainscott on September 27, 1945 in Wichita Falls, Texas. Leon moved from Oklahoma to California in 1947 and returned to Lindsay in 1959. He was a retired carpenter and cabinet maker, dairy owner, real estate broker in Oregon and a school bus driver for Lindsay Public Schools. Leon was a veteran of World War II, serving his country in the U.S. Navy. Leon loved to go coon-hunting with his good buddies, Junior Reeves, Jimmy England and his brother Russell. Whether riding in a pick-up or on the back of a mule, he loved to hear good dogs. He enjoyed fishing with family, especially his grandkids. Leon used his carpentry skills to build a boat (in the family garage). He liked to play in big card games and to discuss politics, but his greatest pleasure was watching his boys and later his grandsons and granddaughters compete in baseball, football, dance, horse shows, Special Olympics or showing sheep. He was passionate about supporting them. Leon will be greatly missed by all who loved him. Mr. Ardrey is survived by his children: Jeanette Williams and husband Danny of St. Louis, Missouri, Wayne Lee Ardrey of Shawnee, Oklahoma and Jeffery Brian Ardrey and wife Deborah of Lindsay, OK and one sister-in-law, Geneva Gordon of Lindsay, OK. Leon also leaves behind his grandchildren: Misty Wells, Brian Ardrey, Kim Collins, Amber Ardrey, Eric Ardrey, Brittany Farley, Brandon Ardrey and his great-grandchildren: Wyatt Wells, Conner Wells, Mackathion Collins, Noah Collins, Gavin Collins, Spencer Collins, Isaac Collins, Haylee Downey, Brielle Farley, Ryanna Farley and Trenten Ardrey as well as two nieces: Teresa Richards and Donna Thomas and five nephews: Larry Boydston, Bo Boydston, Emmett Smart, Rusty Gordon and Danny Gordon. Mr. Ardrey was preceded in death by his wife, Bonnie Ardrey on April 11, 2008. He was also preceded in death by his parents, Lee On and Lillie Ardrey, two sisters: Louise Burns and Rosa Boydston, one brother, Russell Gordon and one niece, Debbie Gordon. Funeral services for Mr. Ardrey are set for two o?clock p.m. on Saturday, December 29, 2012 at the First Baptist Church in Lindsay, Oklahoma with Bro. Bill Love officiating. Interment will follow at Green Hill Cemetery in Lindsay. Services are under the direction of B.G. Boydston Funeral Home of Lindsay, Oklahoma.
