Lillian Chandler, 98, of Lindsay, OK, died on Novermber 7, 2000 in her home in Lindsay. She was born on November 1, 1902 in Leedy, OK to Leroy Leon Peaster and Cora Watson Peaster. Lillian was known to everyone as "Mema". She moved to Wynnewood, OK where she attended high school. She attended school at East Central University and received a certificate to teach school. She and her sister, Inez Brooks taught their first two terms of school at Tyrola. Mema met and married Ivan Chandler on April 3, 1926. They moved east of Lindsay and later operated a dairy farm. They had five children; two sons and three daughters. In 1942 she returned to school and finished her education in 1952. She taught school at Hughes Consolidated until it closed. She also taught at Dare School for two years and at Erin Springs until the school closed in 1968. She retired and devoted her time to family and her crocheting. She made over 100 afghans for her family, some of which she won ribbons on in the State Fair of Oklahoma. She won three-first; one-second; three-third; two-fourth; two fifth, and one-seventh place ribbons. She loved to read to her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Each one of them received some teaching from their "Mema". She was a very active person and loved to travel. Her family often said her middle name was "Go". She attended the Erin Springs Baptist Church and was a member of the Methodist Church in Wynnewood, OK. Survivors are her children, David Leroy Chandler and wife Reba; Ivan Leon Chandler of Lindsay; Oneta Williams and husband, Truman of Anadarko; Mildred Duke and husband Ralph of Skellytown, TX; and Inez Rogers and husband, Bob of Oklahoma City. Eight grandsons, three granddaughters, twenty-three great grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren. Brothers, Howard Peaster of Claremore, OK; and Kenneth and Edna Peaster of Tulsa, OK. She is preceded in death by her husband, Ivan Chandler; by both parents and brothers, George, Otto, Alfred, and Alvin Peaster and sister, Inez Brooks. Services are scheduled for Friday, November 10, 2000 in the Erin Springs Baptist Church at 2:00 p.m. Rev. Bill Love will conduct the service. Services are under the direction of B. G. Boydston Funeral Home in Lindsay. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers, Jerry Williams, James Duke, David Duke, Michael Rogers, Steve Rogers, Randy Chandler, Ronnie Chandler, and Robert Chandler. Granddaughters will be honorary pallbearers, Barbara Denham, Shelly Sparkman, and Karen Drees.
