Steven K. Eby

Steven K. Eby was born on May 18, 1950, in Edinburg, Texas, to Perry Hayes Eby and Mary Ruth (Walraven) Eby. He passed from this life on June 20, 2026, in Alex, Oklahoma, at the age of 76. Steve lived a life defined by hard work, devotion to family, love of country, and an unwavering appreciation for the simple joys that make life meaningful. He was a proud member of the Alex Southern Baptist Church and was deeply connected to the community he loved. An all-around athlete growing up, Steve's passion for baseball far exceeded his interest in football or basketball, culminating in an opportunity to play catcher for a semi-pro team affiliated with the Cincinnati Reds. The lessons he learned through athletics; discipline, perseverance, teamwork, and determination; would remain with him throughout his life. Steve was a proud American who answered the call to serve his country. He served on active duty in the United States Army from 1969 to 1972 as a weapons specialist and continued his service as a reservist from 1973 to 1974. His military service reflected the deep patriotism that remained a cornerstone of his character throughout his life. A lifelong brick mason, Steve took great pride in his work. Through decades of dedication, craftsmanship, and sweat, he helped build structures that will stand as lasting reminders of his strong work ethic and commitment to excellence, including the Alex Southern Baptist Church, where the community will always pass by and remember him. He believed in doing things the right way and took satisfaction in creating something enduring with his hands. On June 17, 1988, Steve married the love of his life, Jenny Jimison, in Stillwater, Oklahoma. Together they shared thirty-seven wonderful years of marriage filled with love, laughter, faith, friendship, and countless cherished memories. Their partnership was a beautiful example of devotion and commitment. While Steve enjoyed many things in life, nothing brought him greater happiness than his family. He treasured every moment spent with his children and grandchildren and delighted in watching them grow. Whether sharing stories, offering advice, attending ballgames, or simply spending time together, Steve's greatest pride was the family he loved so deeply. Steve embodied classic American grit and determination. He enjoyed farming, woodworking, and any opportunity to work with his hands. He was a passionate fan of the Texas Rangers, Texas Longhorns, and Oklahoma State Cowboys. His favorite days often included watching John Wayne westerns, talking baseball, admiring the leadership of Ronald Reagan, cheering on Mickey Mantle, or taking a drive in his beloved truck. Anyone who knew Steve knew he was full of spice and vinegar. He was strong-willed, outspoken, and never afraid to tell you exactly what was on his mind. Yet behind that tough exterior was a heart as big as Oklahoma. Steve was the kind of man who would give the shirt off his back to help a stranger in need, lend a hand without being asked, and stand by the people he loved no matter what. His generosity, loyalty, and larger-than-life personality left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him. More than anything, Steve will be remembered for the life he lived and the people he loved. His was a life rich in faith, family, friendship, service, hard work, laughter, and countless stories. He leaves behind a legacy built not only with brick and mortar, but with kindness, strength, integrity, and love. Those who knew him will forever remember his steady presence, his patriotic spirit, his sense of humor, and the countless ways he made life better for those around him. Left to cherish Steve's memory are his wife, Jenny Eby; his children, Van and Stacey Eby, Erica Eby-Betram, and Beau and Erica Walker; his grandchildren, Jayce Walker, Grant Eby, Reid Eby, Kate Eby, Addison Walker, Trystan Walker, Kruise Betram, Nash Betram, Eden Betram, and Tate Betram; his sister, Candice Eby; his cousins, Brad Walraven, Rocky Walraven, and Karen Walraven-Matts; along with many other beloved family members and dear friends. Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Perry Eby and Mary Eby. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to all of their loved ones, near and far, for the visits, meals, prayers, kind words, and countless blessings shared during this time. The outpouring of love and support has brought tremendous comfort to the family. Truth be told, Steve would probably be overwhelmed by all the attention, but he would also be deeply touched to know how many lives he impacted and how many people cared for him and are taking care of his loved ones. Though he will be deeply missed, Steve's family finds comfort in celebrating a life that was truly well lived, a life marked by service, hard work, generosity, and love. His memory will live on in the stories told around kitchen tables, at family gatherings, on back porches, and anywhere friends come together to share a laugh. The foundations he built in life were far greater than those made of brick; they were built in the hearts of those who loved him, and they will stand strong for generations to come.
