Jessie I. Henry

Jessie Irene Henry passed from this life, Thursday, August 28, 2008 in Skiatook, OK at the age of 93. She was born October 23, 1914 to William Emmitt Hunter and Winnie Ellen Huddleston Hunter in Purdy, OK. Jessie was the second of eight children. They later moved to the New Hope/Payne community. Jessie lived in the Lindsay area her entire life except the past year. Due to failing health, she lived with her daughter, Annabelle and family, in Skiatook. Jessie was married to Charley Lester Henry November 16, 1930. This union was a very happy one and lasted 62 years until Charley?s death in 1992. They farmed and ranched their entire lives. There were eight children born of this marriage. Jessie was an active member of the First Baptist Church where she attended services, WMU and Sunday school faithfully. She sang in the Senior choir a few years. Jessie was a member of AARP and the RSVP. She served as a volunteer for several years with the RSVP going to the food bank, washing dishes or working wherever she was needed. She received an award of Volunteer of the Year in 2000 for Southern Oklahoma. She enjoyed her time at the Senior Center for daily lunches, playing Bingo, and socializing. Jessie loved to travel and went on many trips with the First Baptist Church Senior Group. She loved her church family very much. She looked forward to her birthday trip each year with her daughters. This was an annual tradition for the past fifteen years. Jessie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a son Charley Ray and his wife Golden Henry, a daughter Lois and her husband Douglas Magee, and son-in-law Pete Maddon. Five sisters to precede her in death were, Mabel, Annie, Juanita, Wynona, and Helen. Jessie is survived by one son Lloyd Henry and Darlene of Lindsay, Ellen Maddon of Oklahoma City, Ermalene and James Godwin of Lindsay, Annabelle and Gloyd Shockley of Skiatook, Joyce and Larry Cornforth of Pauls Valley, OK and Carol Jean and Glenn Gaddis of Spring, Texas. She is also survived by brothers Fred and Lillian Hunter of Muskogee, OK and William Emmitt and Darlene Hunter of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She has two surviving sister-in-laws, Marie Holman of Maysville and Bernice Springman of Lindsay. She is survived by 26 grandchildren, 56 great-grandchildren, and six great-great grandchildren. Jessie has many nieces and nephews all of whom she loved dearly. Jessie?s grandchildren are Debbie Miskovsky and Russell Henry of Oklahoma City, Christie and Ron Woodson of Lawton, Michael and Lorrie Burkes of Huntington Beach, CA, Dennis Maddon of Oklahoma City, Pamela and Dan Welch of Edmond, Beth and Paul Cossu of Lake Orion, MI, Terry and Betsy Godwin of Lindsay, Angela and Cory Gideo of Oklahoma City, Gregory and Johnett Godwin of Coppell, TX, David and Betsy Shockley of Rolla, MO, Dana and Joe Hahn of Tulsa, Daneen and Tommy Miller of Heavener, Debbie and Randy Doerfler of Knoxville, TN, Dawn and Roy Irwin of Blue Springs, M0, Bryan and Traci Henry of Lindsay, Becky and Larry Johnson of Seabrook, TX, Brent and Stacy Henry of Madill, Tracey and Jack Mayo of Round Rock, TX, Cory and Monica Magee of Friendswood, TX, Andy and Aimee Cornforth of Mt. Vernon, MO, Tony and Amy Cornforth of Goldsby, David and Mindy Cornforth of Wayne, Laura McCann of Spring, TX, and Stephanie and Brann Vaught of Trinity, TX. Services for Jessie Henry will be at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, September 2, 2008 at the First Baptist Church in Lindsay with Pastor Randy Allen officiating. Interment will be at Green Hill Cemetery.
