Gennie Barnes

Gennie Leona Barnes of Lindsay, Oklahoma went home to be with her Lord on Wednesday, March 28, 2012 at the Lindsay Manor Nursing Home in Lindsay at the age of 94. Leona was born to William Earnest Anderson and Rosie Vannie (Henderson) Anderson on February 17, 1918 in Roberson, Oklahoma. She married Omer D. Barnes on October 8, 1938 in Erin Springs, Oklahoma. Leona lived for fifty years in the Lindsay/Erin Springs area. She was a homemaker and a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Leona was a member of the Erin Springs Baptist Church, and she dearly loved her church family and her ladies Sunday School Class. She loved baking pies, sewing and quilting. Leona also enjoyed fishing, walking and working in her flower garden. She loved to visit and share stories from her past with friends and her grandchildren. Her sweet spirit and warm smile will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved her. Mrs. Barnes is survived by three daughters: Shari Carpenter of Wichita Falls, Texas; Jana Ferguson and husband B.T. of Tishomingo, Oklahoma and Denell Knapp and husband David of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; daughter-in-law, Gwen Barnes of Del City, Oklahoma; one sister, Ophelia Thomas and husband H.P. of Lindsay, Oklahoma; one sister-in-law, Joy Everett of Lindsay, Oklahoma and one brother-in-law Charles Orr of Lindsay, Oklahoma. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Lori Barnes, Jina Gannon and husband Kevin, Wendy Swink and husband Kurt, Jeff Barnes, Chris Carpenter and wife Shandy, Kevin Carpenter and wife Robin, Colby Ferguson and wife Stacy, Adrienne Jacobs and husband Eddie, Jamie Barlow and husband Jarrod, and her great-grandchildren: Tyler Moulton, Korbyn Swink, Savannah Gannon, Spencer Gannon, Jaden Barnes, Kate Carpenter, Lizzy Carpenter, Cambell Carpenter, Griffin Carpenter, Chase Ferguson, Mickinzi Ferguson, Leyton Jacobs and Joel Barlow. Leona was preceded in death by her husband Omer D. Barnes on June 19, 1978. She was also preceded in death by her parents Earnest and Vannie Anderson, one son; Dewayne Barnes; four sisters, Florence Woods, Flora Taylor, Della Strickland and Martha Myer and two brothers, Joe Bob Anderson and J.D. Anderson. Funeral services for Mrs. Barnes are set for two o?clock p.m. on Saturday, March 31, 2012 at the Erin Springs Baptist Church, located on Highway 76 in Erin Springs, Oklahoma, South of Lindsay with Pastor Clay Hicks officiating and Bro. Bill Love assisting. Interment will follow at Purdy Cemetery in Purdy, Oklahoma, South of Lindsay. The family requests that memorials be made to the Erin Springs Baptist Church Building Fund, 13053 Highway 76, Lindsay, OK 73052. Services are under the direction of B.G.
