Dalton Fox

On Friday morning, October 19, 2007, God called one of his precious children home. LaRue Fox was born on September 6, 1928, to Oscar Joseph and Donella Fox in Joy, Oklahoma. He was the second of six children. He attended Joy school until his sophomore year, when he decided to enter the work force and make it on his own. LaRue came to Lindsay in 1948, and started his first job working for the City of Lindsay in the old power plant with Rome Johnson as his supervisor. It was during this time that he met his wife of 58 years, Ruby Jo Jones. LaRue put on a pair of striped carpenter overalls, filled his pouches with nails, and with a zig-zag ruler on one side and a wooden handle hammer on the other, began his career as one of the most respected carpenters to ever live and work in Lindsay. He took pride in his work, and believed strongly in giving an honest eight hours of work each day. He was a simple man who led a simple life. No one could ever count the hours that he helped others for no charge. He was a champion for the "little man". He had a rare quality of accepting people for who they are. He never had to put someone down in order to build himself up. LaRue was baptized into Christ in 1948. He loved to read the Word, and could recite large portions of the New Testament like his Grandpa Caldwell. He loved to sing gospel music. Music was his gift to ministry of the Lindsay Church of Christ. Besides leading congregational singing, he helped comfort the hearts of literally hundreds of grieving families by helping provide music for funerals over the past 45+years. His love for acapella music and his stout tenor voice will be remembered for generations to come. LaRue is survived by his wife, Ruby Jo of Lindsay, sons Greg and wife Elaine Fox of Stillwater, Oklahoma, and Glen and wife Jo Anne Fox of Bristow, Oklahoma, five grandchildren, Karalea, Nathan, and Layna Fox of Stillwater, Oklahoma, Lorrelyn Fox of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Andrew Fox of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He also leaves behind his brothers; Eugene and wife Norma Jo Fox of Bedford, Texas, Delford and wife Virginia Fox of Davis, Oklahoma, and sisters; Wandora and husband Vandon Fullerton of Norman, Oklahoma, and Rheka Don Russell and husband, Perry of Wynnewood, Oklahoma, one brother in law, Homer Ratchford and wife Mildred of Davis, Oklahoma. LaRue is also survived by two sisters in law, Corinne Jones of Monrovia California and Voncille Hightower and husband Wilburn of Lindsay, Oklahoma, numerous nieces and nephews. He touched the lives of many, and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He is preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Emma Jean Ratchford. Committal services for LaRue will be on Monday October 22, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. at Green Hill Cemetery. Memorial services will follow at 11:00 a.m. at the Church of Christ in Lindsay, Oklahoma.
