Willard A. Payne

Willard A. Payne, age 81, a resident of Lindsay, OK since 1950, passed away in the Veterans Center in Norman, OK on November 5, 2000. He was born in Checotah, OK on June 30, 1919 to Con Payne and Mary Ida Woods Payne. Willard was a member of The First Christian Church; a 32nd Degree Mason; served on the Lindsay City Council; Lindsay Chamber of Commerce; and Mayor of Lindsay in the 1960s. He also served in the United States Coast Guard during World War II. Before retiring he worked in the Oilfield and Pest Control Industries; Portable Steam and Tank Truck Company; Payne Distributing Company; Payne Spray Service; Payne Oilfield Service Company and Payne Pest Control. He enjoyed woodcarving, puzzles and traveling. He is survived by one grandson, Don Arthur Payne of Stillwater, OK; daughter-in-law, Nancy Payne-Adams; and one niece, Jackie Hoshall Powell and husband, Bill. He is preceded in death by his wife, Maxine Robinson Payne on April 20, 1998. They were married on Aug. 10, 1940 in Oklahoma City, OK. He is also preceded in death by one son Don Charles Payne; and one sister Delta Payne Hoshall; one brother Willis Payne. Funeral arrangements are with B. G. Boydston Funeral Home in Lindsay, OK. A graveside service will be held in Green Hill Cemetery on Wednesday, November 8, 2000 at 2:00 p.m. with Father Bill Powell officiating. Military Honors will be given by the Lindsay American Legion Post # 23. Masonic Rites will be held at the graveside by the Lindsay Masonic Lodge.
