Voncille Hightower
October 10, 1933 - April 30, 2022
Voncille Hightower entered her eternal rest on April 30, 2022, in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma, at the age of 88. She was born to Calvin Jones and Beulah (Conn) Jones, on October 10, 1933, in Bray, Oklahoma. Around the age of two, she contracted polio. As a child, she spent most of her time at the Children’s Hospital. She had to wear a knee-high cast and use crutches, but that never slowed her down. Voncille would climb trees, turn cartwheels, and outrun her sisters every chance she got. Voncille graduated from Lindsay High School in 1951. After graduation she and her sister Corinne moved to California. She returned to Oklahoma later and has called Lindsay her home for the last forty-two years. Voncille was a devote Christian and a member of the Church of Christ. She whole heartedly loved and believed in the Lord. Voncille loved doing service for the Lord and for many years she cleaned the church as part of her tithing. Voncille married Austin Mallory in the late 1950’s and together they lived in Arcadia for several years. After she returned to Lindsay, she married Wilburn “Red” Washington Hightower, in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma, on December 15, 1978. The two celebrated forty-two years together before Red’s passing in September of 2021. Voncille loved to plant flowers and work in her garden. When Red was alive they went to all of the Leopards basketball and football games. Voncille had a heart of gold and loved helping others in any way that she could. She was very loving, kind, and generous with her time. Voncille’s greatest treasure was her family, she adored each of them with her whole heart and lived for every moment she was able to spend with them. She was truly a loving mother, grandmother and the best great grandmother. She will be immensely missed by all her family and friends. Left to cherish her memory are her children, Gary Jones of Oklahoma City, Keith Jones and wife Barbie of Oklahoma City, Jeffery Mallory of Lindsay, Michelle Hillin and husband John of Pauls Valley, Pattie Bowman and husband Richard of Custer City, Virginia Towery of Newcastle, Vickie Scruggs and husband Robert of Mannford, Becky Morgan and husband Darrell of Lawton, two sisters, Corinne Jones of Pauls Valley and Ruby Jo Fox of Lindsay, thirteen grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren, and four great-great grandchildren. Voncille is preceded in death by her parents, Calvin and Beulah Jones, husband, Red Hightower, and great grandchildren, Christian, Destiny, and Keagan Yancy. A funeral service to honor the life of Voncille is set to begin at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, May 3, 2022, at the Lindsay Church of Christ. She will be laid to rest at the Green Hill Cemetery in Lindsay, Oklahoma, following the service. Services are under the direction of Scott and Angel Wilbourn of Wilbourn Family Funeral Home in Lindsay, Oklahoma. Condolences may be made to the family online at www.wilbournfamilyfuneralhome.com
